10 things I loved & hated about living in Los Angeles

(The 101 Freeway on a great day ... no traffic!)

I was reminiscing today about our year spent living in LA. Here are a few things I noted a few weeks before we headed home .... (if you've ever lived there or spent any amount of time in LA then this will make total sense to you!)

10 Things I loved and hated about living in Los Angeles

LOVED

  1. The weather. Warm, sunny days. Blue sky.
  2. Living in a coastal suburb. Easy access to a twinkling ocean and therapeutic walks along the beach.
  3. Watching the car chases live – as they happen!
  4. Getting paid in US Dollars.
  5. Being close enough for a road trip to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park etc.

HATED

  1. Crazy drivers. Cars dart in and out of lanes without using their indicators. Morons!
  2. Valet parking. Ahhhh! I am tired of paying some guy a tip for ‘valet parking’ when a parking spot is easily within reach. I can park my own car, thank you very much! What a pointless way of losing money.
  3. Tipping. Why don’t employers pay their employees an acceptable wage, instead of us having to remember to add tax AND tip for a meal out, haircut, leg wax etc.
  4. Showing the ‘before tax’ price for everything and ringing up tax at the end of a sale.
  5. News stories that drag out and tell us nothing about something. (“This is Jo reporting for Fox 11 News … we’re not quite sure what’s happening, but there appears to be a man stuck in the car, but we’re not sure yet. It looks like a person, oh hang on, here come the LAPD. We’re not sure exactly what’s happening, but stay tuned as we find out”). Der Fred. How about you do some journalism and FIND OUT FIRST and THEN report on it!!!!!

Totally, totally agree. You can add these comments to your list:

PROS:
* Large, clearly labeled street signs at each intersection. Not like the tiny, unreadable ones we have here.
* New Simpsons, the Office, etc. All riight!
* Burgers. Fatburger, In'n'Out, Islands. The yanks really do know how to do a first class burger.
* Unlimited refills on your drinks at restaurants.
* Fresh cookies from Ralph's. Yum!
* The Manhattan Beach Pier and Shops.
* Great clothing styles, at great prices.

CONS:
* Irritating political ads on TV at every ad break. eg. vote Yes on Prop 90! Vote No on Prop 91! Firefighters say Vote Yes! Teachers say Vote No!
* Far too many guns and drive-by shootings.
* Trying to get anywhere on the 405 during peak hour.
* The 'June Gloom'
* Pretentious, image obsessed botoxed creatures strutting the beach.
* SUVs parked in 'Compact' spaces
* Parking meters at every turn
